'Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling' (Rose, 2009)

Estimates suggest that around 6% of the population have dyslexia. However, many individuals don't realise they have dyslexia, and struggle through school and university wondering why they seem to find certain tasks so much more difficult than their peers. Tasks like copying from the board or following a list of instructions can feel daunting; reading aloud in class feels terrifying; and something just seems to go wrong in between explaining an idea verbally, and writing it down on paper. Difficulties like these are characteristic of dyslexia, but getting the right support helps individuals with dyslexia to achieve the great successes that they are capable of. If this sounds familiar and you'd like to learn more, get in touch today.

I offer a range of services in Oxfordshire and online to ensure that children and adults struggling with literacy get the support they need.

ABOUT ME

I first became interested in dyslexia when I was working as a secondary English teacher, having previously completed my teacher training at the University of Cambridge. I wanted to understand how I could provide the best support to students struggling with literacy skills. I completed my MA in Specific Learning Difficulties with UCL and gained my Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC). I have supported students with literacy difficulties in mainstream education, a pupil referral unit (PRU) and a special education school for individuals with speech, language and communication difficulties. I am also CertTESOL qualified, and have experience teaching English as a foreign language.

I now provide dyslexia assessments and literacy support to individuals and schools. I also help to train other teachers who are becoming dyslexia specialists by working as a tutor for Dyslexia Matters, and as an associate assessor for UCL.

ABOUT ME

I first became interested in dyslexia when I was working as a secondary English teacher, having previously completed my teacher training at the University of Cambridge. I wanted to understand how I could support the students I taught who struggled with literacy. I completed my MA in Specific Learning Difficulties with UCL and gained my Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC). I spent two years working as a dyslexia specialist, supporting students with literacy difficulties in mainstream education, SEN schools and PRUs. I then went on to gain my NASENCo qualification and have been working as a SENDCo for the last 3 years. I currently work part-time in an SEMH school specialising in supporting students with autism, ADHD and attachment difficulties. I am also CertTESOL qualified, and have experience teaching English as a foreign language.

Alongside my work as a SENCo, I provide private dyslexia assessments and literacy support to individuals and schools. I also help to train other teachers who are becoming dyslexia specialists by working as an AMBDA tutor for UCL.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your help and support these past two years, it’s helped me tremendously. I still can’t quite believe I got a C and I couldn't have done it without your sessions and strange but helpful method for remembering the key dates. I cannot thank you enough.
