ASSESSMENTS FOR EXAM ACCESS ARRANGEMENTS
What is it?
Assessments for exam access arrangements are used to identify whether an individual qualifies for any additional arrangements or support during exams. Some arrangements, such as putting the exam on coloured paper or giving a student rest breaks, can be decided by the school without the need for specialist evidence. However, some arrangements need to be supported by evidence from specific tests.
These access arrangements include:
-
Extra time
-
A reader
-
A scribe
-
Assistive software (screen reader/voice recognition)
To ascertain whether they qualify for these arrangements, an individual is asked to complete tasks that measure their performance in the specific area(s) being investigated. Their performance is reported, and advice given on which (if any) of these access arrangements would be appropriate for them. A signed Section C of JCQ Form 8 is completed. It remains the school’s responsibility to decide what access arrangements to apply for and to make the relevant applications. Access arrangements should be in line with the individual’s ‘normal way of working’ in class; for example, if it is decided that an individual would benefit from using voice recognition software in exams, they should also be using voice recognition software in lessons.
Who is it for?
I predominantly conduct assessments for access arrangements for students due to take GCSE's, AS Levels or A-Level examinations. I can also conduct them, where required, for other qualifications (e.g. BTECs, Entry Level Certificates).
I can conduct these assessments for individuals or schools. Please note that where this is privately commissioned for an individual student, I will have to contact their school and involve them in the process, as per JCQ guidelines.
Assessments for access arrangements should not be conducted more than 26 months before the examination period (e.g. the May of Y9 for GCSE exams being taken in Y11); but must be conducted before the deadline for applications closes (normally sometime in the February of Y11 for examinations covered by JCQ).
How much does it cost?
For individuals: £170 plus travel
For schools: £400 p/day plus travel
